Al-Mu'jam al-Saghir

Sayyiduna Dhul-Nun Misri Abu’l-Fayd Abid, may Allah have mercy on him, says: “O Allah! Make us among those who pass by the houses of the oppressors and fear to associate with the ignorant, who mix the light of sincerity with the fruit of deeds, who draw water from the spring of wisdom, who ride upon the boat of understanding and intelligence, who build a fortress in the spirit of certainty, who enter the sea of salvation, and who anchor at the shore of sincerity. O Allah! Make us among those whose souls eat and drink in the heights, who eat fruits from the gardens of fragrance, who enter the depths of the sea of joy, who drink from the cup of bliss and luxury, and who find shade beneath honor. O Allah! Make us among those who opened the door of patience, ended the trenches of anxiety, passed through the hardships of punishment, and crossed the bridge of wind. For Allah the Exalted says: “And as for he who feared standing before his Lord and restrained the soul from desire, then indeed, Paradise will be his refuge.” (al-Nazi‘at: 40-41) O Allah! Make us among those before whom the signs of guidance have become clear, the paths of salvation have become evident, and who walk upon the path of certain sincerity.”
