Statement about washing the limbs of ablution three times
Hadith 93
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ السُّكَيْنِ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّهَاوِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ الرَّهَاوِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْلَةَ ، سَأَلْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، " كَيْفَ أَتَوَضَّأُ ؟ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتَنِي كَيْفَ أَتَوَضَّأُ وَلا تَسْأَلُنِي : كَيْفَ رَأَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَوَضَّأُ ؟ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَوَضَّأُ ثَلاثًا ثَلاثًا ، وَقَالَ : بِهَذَا أَمَرَنِي رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَبْلَةَ ، إِلا قَتَادَةُ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ الزُّبَيْرُ
Ibrahim bin Abi Ablah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): How should I perform ablution? He said: You asked how should I perform ablution, but you did not ask how did you see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing ablution? I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing ablution three times each, and he said: "My Lord has commanded me to perform ablution in this manner."
