Description of the virtue of Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them)
Hadith 892
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْوَضَّاحِ الْكُوفِيُّ ، قِرَاءَةً عَلَى هَنَّادِ بْنِ السَّرِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : "اسْتَغْفَرَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَمْسًا وَعِشْرِينَ اسْتِغْفَارَةً كُلُّ ذَلِكَ أَعُدُّهَا بِيَدَيَّ ، يَقُولُ : قَضَيْتَ عَنْ أَبِيكَ دَيْنَهُ ؟ ، فَأَقُولُ : نَعَمْ ، فَيَقُولُ : غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ "، لَمْ يَرْوِ هَذَا اللَّفْظَ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، إِلا جَابِرُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ شَيْبَانُ
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for my forgiveness twenty-five times; each time I counted with my own hands. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you paid your father's debt?" I would reply: Yes. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "May Allah forgive you."
