حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ التُّجِيبِيُّ الْمِصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الصَّوَّافُ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الإِسْلامَ بَدَا غَرِيبًا ، وَسَيَعُودُ غَرِيبًا كَمَا بَدَا ، فَطُوبَى لِلْغُرَبَاءِ ، قِيلَ : وَمَنِ الْغُرَبَاءُ ، يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ ، قَالَ : الَّذِينَ يُصْلِحُونَ إِذَا فَسَدَ النَّاسُ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، إِلا بَكْرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الصَّوَّافُ
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Islam began in a strange state and it will soon return to the same state as it began, so glad tidings for the strangers.” The companions asked: O Messenger of Allah! Who are the strangers? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Those who set things right when people become corrupt.”

The meaning is that when Islam came, the lives of its followers were spent in such a state of estrangement that people harbored hatred towards them,
and considered associating with them to be a disgrace for themselves,
and they would inflict harm upon them.
In exactly such a state of estrangement, in the final era of Islam, its followers will be found.
But glad tidings and congratulations are for those people who embraced Islam in this state of estrangement, and for those who will embrace it in its final era,
and who, bearing the harm from enemies, will continue to serve and propagate it with their lives and wealth.
