It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The superiority of Sayyidah Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, over other women is like the superiority of tharid over all other foods."

Hadith Commentary:
Tharid is an excellent food, easily digestible and a nourishing meal.
From this hadith, its superiority is evident, just as it indicates the lofty status and rank of Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha.
Its explanation has already been mentioned earlier in the Book of Virtues (Kitab al-Manaqib).

Hadith Commentary:
This is why eating tharid is, in a sense, like eating the best of foods, which is favored among Muslims today. Especially among the lovers of the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), even today, preparing and eating tharid is preferred.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The virtue of tharid is mentioned in this hadith.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) greatly liked this food.
Pieces of bread are soaked in meat broth.
When they become soft, they are eaten.
This food is extremely delicious and easy to digest.
(2)
From this, it is understood that there is no harm in eating delicious food; it is not necessary to make it tasteless by mixing it with something else.
And Allah knows best.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The apparent subtlety in tharid is that it is delicious and easy to digest, and it is easy to chew. Its inner subtlety is that it produces wholesome blood, which is a cause of masculine strength.
In the same way, the outward superiority of Aisha (radi Allahu anha) is that eloquence and fluency in speech were present on her tongue.
And her inner virtue is that she was a jurist (faqihah) and possessed insight.
Among the foods of the Arabs, tharid was the most desirable and preferred.
➋
From this analogy, it is understood that Aisha (radi Allahu anha) possessed, to the highest degree, good character, sweetness of speech, eloquence of tongue, sharpness of intellect, soundness of opinion, and seriousness in wisdom.
Above all, she had great love for the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also had great affection for her.
The greatest point is that one third of the rulings of the religion are narrated from her.
No one else attained this distinction.

Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
(1)
Shi‘ar:
The garment that touches the body, i.e., the inner garment.
The intended meaning is that the Ansar are my special and intimate, trustworthy companions.
(2)
Dithar:
The outer garment, i.e., the garment worn on top.
The general people are of a secondary rank and come after the Ansar.
Benefits and Issues:
➊
Sometimes, a matter or behavior becomes a cause of misunderstanding among companions, which agitates their emotions.
At such times, it is necessary to clarify the true reality of the matter before them so that their misunderstanding is removed and their emotions are calmed.
If the matter is not immediately controlled and efforts are not made to reassure the companions, the issue gradually becomes serious.
Suspicions continue to increase, and one day the volcano of emotions erupts, giving rise to new problems, as is commonly seen nowadays. Generally, those in authority do not take their companions into confidence, and gradually resentment and malice develop in hearts, which becomes a cause of trouble at any time of need.
Furthermore, the foremost status is given to religion, faith, and creed, because that is the foundation of trust.
If trust is maintained, it is easy to please and reassure companions, but in an atmosphere of mistrust, it is not easy to please them.
Whereas nowadays, the first and last priority is given to material interests; those who do not receive material benefits abandon companionship, and for the sake of material interests, even an enemy is made a friend.
Therefore, all affairs have become disordered and there is a lack of unity and harmony.
➋
The preference and superiority with which you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) informed the Ansar during the incident of Hunayn became apparent after the eras of the two Shaykhs (Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu and Umar radi Allahu anhu).
During the governmental and administrative periods, they (the Ansar) were neglected, which had negative consequences.
➌
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: O Ansar, you could say that your (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) people denied you, and we affirmed you;
they abandoned you without support,
we aided and supported you;
they expelled you, and we gave you shelter;
in times of need, we showed you sympathy and shared your grief.
But they (the Ansar) replied: This is the favor of Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
In any case, you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) consoled the Ansar in every respect and made them feel that they were your close and special companions, and informed them that your living and dying is with them.
There has been no decrease in the love and respect for you in my heart, nor have others become closer or dearer to me than you.
I have given them wealth only to win their hearts, and you do not need to have your hearts won over.

Explanation:

Among those women, Maryam, Khadijah, and Fatimah are excepted, as is established from other narrations.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Among human beings, the highest and most perfect rank is that of prophethood, which has not been granted to women. Allah the Exalted has said:
﴿وَما أَرسَلنا مِن قَبلِكَ إِلّا رِجالًا﴾ ()
“(O Prophet!) We did not send before you except men (as messengers).”
Therefore, in the hadith, the perfection intended is not only that which is bestowed (wahbi), but also that in which there is an element of acquisition (kasb), that is, the rank of siddiqiyyah (truthfulness of the highest order). Among the women of previous communities, the highest rank of siddiqiyyah was attained by Maryam (alayha as-salam) and Asiyah (radi Allahu anha). In the Ummah of Muhammad, this rank was attained by Aishah (radi Allahu anha).
➋ Tharid is a type of food prepared by breaking bread into small pieces and soaking them in broth. In the environment of that era, it was the best food, both in terms of nutrition and taste. In addition, it is easily prepared, digests quickly, and possesses many benefits.
