حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ بْنِ مُوسَى الْعَسْكَرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ الأَعْرَابِيِّ ، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : "مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى حَيٍّ مِنْ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ، فَإِذَا جَوَارِي يَضْرِبْنَ بِالدُّفِّ ، وَيَقُلْنَ : نَحْنُ قَيْنَاتُ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ، فَحَبَّذَا مُحَمَّدٌ مِنْ جَارٍ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : اللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ قَلْبِيَ يُحِبُّكُمْ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ عَوْفٍ ، إِلا عِيسَى ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a clan of Banu Najjar, and some girls were beating the duff and saying: «نَحْنُ قَيْنَاتُ مِنْ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ فَحَبَّذَا مُحَمَّدٌ مِنْ جَارٍ» "We are the girls of Banu Najjar. What an excellent neighbor Muhammad (peace be upon him) is to us." So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: «اللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ قَلْبِي يُحِبُّكُمْ» "Allah knows that my heart loves you."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ It is permissible for young girls to play the duff (tambourine), but one should avoid other musical instruments.
➋ An honorable elder may express affection to young girls with appropriate words, provided there is no risk of misunderstanding.
➌ The words “Allah knows” carry the meaning of an oath. It is permissible to use words of oath for emphasis, even if there is no situation of doubt or suspicion.
➍ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) loved the Ansar because they made great sacrifices for Islam. For the believers as well, loving the Ansar is a requirement of their faith.
