Hadith 787
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ، بِطَرَسُوسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، وَحِبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْمَرْوَزِيَانِ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ سَهْلُ بْنُ حُنَيْفٍ "يَوْمَ صِفِّينَ : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، اتَّهِمُوا رَأْيَكُمْ ، فَإِنَّا وَاللَّهِ مَا أَخَذْنَا بَقَوَائِمِ سُيُوفِنَا إِلَى أَمْرٍ يَفْضَعُنَا إِلا أَسْهَلَ بِنَا إِلَى أَمْرٍ نَعْرِفُهُ إِلا أَمَرَكُمْ هَذَا ، فَإِنَّهُ لا يَزْدَادُ إِلا شِدَّةً وَلَبْسًا ، لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي يَوْمَ أَبِي جَنْدَلٍ ، وَلَوْ أَجِدُ أَعْوَانًا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، لأَنْكَرْتُ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ عَمْرٍو ، إِلا عِيسَى بْنُ عُمَرَ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ
Shaqiq bin Salamah says: Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunaif (may Allah be pleased with him) said on the day of Siffin: O people! Blame your own opinions. Whenever we faced any difficulty and held the hilts of our swords, Allah Almighty made that matter easy for us, just as it became clear to us. But your situation is becoming more complicated and confused. I saw myself on the day of Abu Jandal; if anyone had supported me, I would have rejected the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
