Sayyida Maymunah bint Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) (the wife of the Prophet, peace be upon him) narrates: One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) woke up in the morning, and he felt heavy and displeased, and he remained in that state until the evening. I said: O Messenger of Allah! I feel that you are not well. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Jibril (peace be upon him) had promised me that he would come to me, and he has never broken a promise to me." Then it was noticed that there was a puppy under the bed. The Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered that it be taken out and that place be washed with water. Then Jibril (peace be upon him) came. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: "You have never broken a promise to me, and this time you promised to come but you did not come?" Jibril (peace be upon him) said: "We do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture."

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet entered the Ka`ba and found in it the pictures of (Prophet) Abraham and Mary. On that he said' "What is the matter with them ( i.e. Quraish)? They have already heard that angels do not enter a house in which there are pictures; yet this is the picture of Abraham. And why is he depicted as practicing divination by arrows?"
Maulana Dawood Raz
Hadith Commentary: The polytheists of Arabia made an idol of Ibrahim (alayhis salam) and placed a divining arrow in his hand. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said that making the arrow into a divining tool, gambling with it, or seeking omens from it cannot befit the dignity of any prophet. Qastallani said that when the disbelievers of Makkah set out on journeys and the like, they would seek omens from these arrows. From this hadith, it is also understood that whether an idol is worshipped as a deity, or the grave or image of a prophet or saint is worshipped, both are equal in being shirk (polytheism). Those ignorant Muslims who say that the shirk condemned in the Noble Qur’an refers only to the idol-worship of disbelievers, and that “we Muslims only revere the saints (awliya Allah) as intermediaries,”—the claim of these ignorant ones is nothing but self-deception.

´Maimunah, the wife of the Prophet narrated:` "The Messenger of Allah was upset one morning and Maimunah said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, you look upset today., He said: 'Jibril, peace be upon him, had promised to meet me last night but he did not come, and by Allah, he never failed to keep an appointment,; The day passed, then he thought of a puppy that was beneath a table of ours. He ordered that it be taken out, and then he took some water In his hand and sprinkled it over the place where it had been. That evening, Jibril, peace be upon him, came and met him. The Messenger of Allah said to him: 'You [promised to meet me last night,; He said: 'Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture,; the next day the Messenger of Allah Commanded that dogs be killed."

(1) The issue is clear that the angels of mercy do not enter a house in which there is a dog. However, it must be remembered that a house in which a dog is kept out of necessity is exempt from this, because the Lawgiver (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself has granted permission for this. And every action of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is in accordance with the will of Allah.
(2) From this blessed hadith, the importance of fulfilling promises is also understood. Fulfilling promises is necessary. The one to whom a promise is made remains in anticipation of its fulfillment. Consider: when Jibril Amin (alayhis salam) did not come as per the promise on one occasion, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) remained distressed the entire day.
(3) It is understood that even the angels are bound by the divine laws, and that the law is not changed even for the Prophets; otherwise, the law would have been changed for the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). And Allah knows best.
