Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: On the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to Sayyidah Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was feeling hungry. She said to him: O Messenger of Allah! Some of my in-laws have come to me under compulsion, and Ali bin Abi Talib does not care about the blame of any blamer. I fear that if he comes to know about them, he will kill them. So, will you grant safety to the person who comes into my house, until he hears the word of Allah? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted them safety and said: “Whoever is given protection by Umm Hani, we have also given him protection.” Then he said: “Do you have any food that we may eat?” She replied: We have only a piece of dry bread, and I feel shy to present it to you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Bring it.” So she broke it and put it in water, then brought salt. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Is there any curry?” She said: O Messenger of Allah! There is nothing else, but there is a little vinegar. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Bring it.” So he poured it over the food and ate from it, then praised Allah, and then said: “O Umm Hani! The best curry is vinegar. The house in which there is vinegar is not empty.”
