Hadith 601

وَبِإِسْنَادِهِ وَبِإِسْنَادِهِ عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : " أَغَارَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى لِقَاحِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَرَكِبْتُ ، فَأَدْرَكْتُهُمْ ، وَقَتَلْتُ مَسْعَدَةَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ رَآنِي أَفْلَحَ الْوَجْهِ : اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ ثَلاثًا وَنَفَّلَنِي سَلَبَ مَسْعَدَةَ "

With this same chain, Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The polytheists raided the camels of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so I mounted and set out in pursuit of them, and I killed Mas'adah. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me, he said: "This face has succeeded. O Allah! Forgive him." He said this three times. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted me Mas'adah's extra spoils and booty.
