Explanation of the destruction of 360 idols in the Kaaba
Hadith 600
حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْعَبَّادَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : "دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَكَّةَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ ، وَعَلَى الْكَعْبَةِ ثَلاثُ مِائَةٍ وَسِتُّونَ صَنَمًا قَدْ شَدَّ لَهُمْ إِبْلِيسُ أَقْدَامَهَا بِرَصَاصٍ ، فَجَاءَ وَمَعَهُ قَضِيبٌ ، فَجَعَلَ يَهْوِي بِهِ إِلَى كُلِّ صَنَمٍ مِنْهَا فَيَخِرُّ لِوَجْهِهِ ، فَيَقُولُ : جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ إِنَّ الْبَاطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا سورة الإسراء آية 81 حَتَّى مَرَّ عَلَيْهَا كُلِّهَا "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ ، إِلا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah on the day of the conquest of Makkah while there were three hundred and sixty idols in the Ka'bah. Iblis had made their feet firm with solder. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and he had a stick with him, so he would go to each idol with it and it would fall on its face. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: “﴿JAA'AL-HAQQU WA ZAHAAQAL-BAATILU INNAL-BAATILA KAANA ZAHOOQAA﴾ Truth has come and falsehood has perished; indeed, falsehood is ever bound to perish.” Until he (peace and blessings be upon him) had passed by all of them.
