Hadith 580

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ صَقْرٍ السُّكَّرِيُّ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، قَالَ : ذَكَرَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَبْعِينَ رَجُلا مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ كَانَ إِذَا جَنَّهُمُ اللَّيْلُ آوَوْا إِلَى مَعْلَمٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، فَيَبِيتُونَ يَدْرِسُونَ الْقُرْآنَ ، فَإِذَا أَصْبَحُوا فَمَنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ قُوَّةٌ أَصَابَ مِنَ الْحَطَبِ ، وَاسْتَعْذَبَ مِنَ الْمَاءِ ، وَمَنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ سَعَةٌ أَصَابُوا الشَّاةَ ، فَأَصْلَحُوا ، فَكَانَتْ تُصْبِحُ مُعَلَّقَةً بِحِجْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا أُصِيبَ خُبَيْبٌ بَعَثَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَكَانَ فِيهِمْ خَالِي حَرَامُ بْنُ مِلْحَانَ ، فَأَتَوْا عَلَى حَيٍّ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ ، فَقَالَ حَرَامٌ لأَمِيرِهِمْ : أَلا أُخْبِرُ هَؤُلاءِ أَنَّا لَسْنَا إِيَّاهُمْ نُرِيدُ فَيُخَلُّوا وُجُوهَنَا ؟ ، قَالُوا : نَعَمْ ، فَأَتَاهُمْ ؟ ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ ذَلِكَ ، فَاسْتَقْبَلَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ بِرُمْحٍ ، فَأَنْفَذَهُ بِهِ ، فَلَمَّا وَجَدَ حَرَامٌ مَسَّ الرُّمْحِ مَسَحَ فِي جَوْفِهِ ، قَالَ : فُزْتُ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ ، فَانْطَوَوْا عَلَيْهِمْ ، فَمَا بَقِيَ مِنْهُمْ مُخْبِرٌ ، فَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَدَ عَلَى سَرِيَّةٍ وَجْدَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ : فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كُلَّمَا صَلَّى الْغَدَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ يَدْعُو عَلَيْهِمْ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ أَتَى أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَقُولُ : هَلْ لَكَ فِي قَاتَلِ حَرَامٍ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : مَا بَالُهُ ؟ فَعَلَ اللَّهُ بِهِ وَفَعَلَ قَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ : لا تَفْعَلْ ، فَقَدْ أَسْلَمَ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، إِلا عَفَّانُ

Thabit Banani says: Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned seventy men of the Ansar, that when night would fall, they would gather at a sign in Madinah. There they would spend the night and recite the Qur'an. When morning came, whoever had the strength would collect some firewood and drink cold water, and whoever had the means would bring a goat and prepare it, and it would be hung from the chamber of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When Khubaib faced hardship, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent them. Among them was my maternal uncle, Haram bin Milhan. So they came to the tribe of Banu Sulaym. Haram said to their leader: "Should I not tell them that we are not those people, so they may uncover our faces?" He said: "Yes, tell them." So he went to them and spoke, but a man came forward with a spear and thrust it into him. When Haram felt the blow of the spear in his stomach, he said: "By the Lord of the Ka'bah! I have succeeded." Then they killed all of them, so that none remained to bring news. I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) grieve over this expedition as I had never seen him grieve before. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whenever he prayed the morning prayer, he would raise his hands and supplicate against them. After that, Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to me and said: "Are you interested in the killer of Haram?" He said: "What about him? May Allah do such and such to him." Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do not say that, he has become a Muslim."
