Explanation of the Pledge of Ridwan
Hadith 579
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَيَانٍ الْمُطَرِّزُ الْمِصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ صَالِحُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّيْمِيُّ ، عَنْ مِسْعَرِ بْنِ كِدَامٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : "أَشَهِدْتَ بَيْعَةَ الرِّضْوَانِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : فَمَا كَانَ عَلَيْهِ ؟ ، قَالَ : قَمِيصٌ مِنْ قُطْنٍ ، وَجُبَّةٌ مَحْشُوَّةٌ ، وَرِدَاءٌ ، وَسَيْفٌ ، وَرَأَيْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ مُقَرِّنٍ الْمُزَنِيَّ قَائِمًا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ قَدْ رَفَعَ أَغْصَانَ الشَّجَرَةِ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ وَالنَّاسُ يُبَايِعُونَهُ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ ، إِلا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ صَالِحٌ
Ata bin Abi Rabah says: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): Were you present with the Prophet (peace be upon him) at the Pledge of Ridwan? He said: Yes! I asked: What were you wearing? He said: A cotton shirt, a padded coat, a sheet, and a sword. And I saw Nu'man bin Muqarrin standing over the head of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The branches of the tree were rising above the head of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and people were pledging allegiance to the Prophet (peace be upon him).
