Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), the uncle of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), was guarding him when this verse was revealed: “O Messenger! Convey what has been sent down to you from your Lord; and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people.” (Al-Ma'idah: 67) After the revelation of this verse, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) abandoned the practice of keeping a guard.

Explanation: 1: "And Allah will protect you from the people" (: al-Ma'idah: 67).
2: This promise of Allah was specific to you due to your being a Prophet. Other Muslim leaders may adopt a system of guards for their protection.

Tariq bin Shihab says: A person belonging to the Jews said to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): If this verse had been revealed to us, "This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion." (5-al-Ma'idah:13), we would have declared that day as a day of Eid. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I know on which day this verse was revealed. This verse was revealed on the day of Arafah and it was revealed on a Friday.

Benefit: In Islam, there are only two Eids: ➊ Eid al-Adha ➋ Eid al-Fitr. Other than these, Islam has not designated any other day as an Eid. Muslims should adhere to the Qur’an and Hadith. Nowadays, some people have promoted innovations and superstitions in the name of religion, and every now and then they invent ever greater innovations. Among these innovations is also the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday (Eid Milad al-Nabi). How the so-called “Ahl al-Sunnah” are mocking Islam—may Allah grant us safety and protection.
«لْيَوْمَأَكْمَلْتُلَكُمْدِينَكُمْ » (al-Ma’idah: 3) is indeed a verse of great status, for in it Allah the Exalted has mentioned three important matters: ① The religion has been completed; there is no need for any addition or subtraction in it. For the completion of religion is a great honor and blessing for any community, and this was granted to the Ummah of Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). ② The religion of Islam is a blessing from Allah the Exalted; we should value it. ③ The religion of Islam is the choice of Allah the Exalted, so it should also be beloved to the Muslims.
It is also proven from this hadith that Sayyiduna Umar al-Faruq (radi Allahu anhu) was an expert in the Qur’an, to the extent that he knew where and when any noble verse was revealed.
