Description of a letter sent by the Prophet (peace be upon him) for inviting to Islam
Hadith 568
حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ سَعْدَوَيْهِ الطَّاحِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ أَخِيهِ خَالِدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : "كَتَبَ إِلَى بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ : مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِلَى بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ أَسْلِمُوا تَسْلَمُوا "، فَمَا قَرَأَهُ إِلا رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي ضُبَيْعَةَ ، فَهُمْ يُسَمَّوْنَ بَنِي الْكَاتِبِ لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، إِلا خَالِدُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wrote a letter to Bakr bin Wa'il: "From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to Bakr bin Wa'il: Accept Islam and you will be safe." So this letter was read by a man from Banu Dubay'ah, whose name was Banu Katib.
