Superiority of being dutiful to one’s mother
Hadith 563
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ الْبَغَوِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ الْسَّامِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَيْمُونُ بْنُ نَجِيحٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : أَتَى رَجُلٌ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنِّي أَشْتَهِي الْجِهَادَ وَلا أَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ : فَهَلْ بَقِيَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ وَالِدَيْكَ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : أُمِّي قَالَ : فَأَبْلِ اللَّهَ عُذْرًا فِي بِرِّهَا ، فَإِذَا فَعَلْتَ ذَلِكَ فَأَنْتَ حَاجٌّ وَمُعْتَمِرٌ وَمُجَاهِدٌ إِذَا رَضِيَتْ عَنْكَ أُمُّكَ ، فَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَبَرَّهَا "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، إِلا مَيْمُونُ بْنُ نَجِيحٍ
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I love jihad but I do not have the strength for it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are either of your parents alive?" He said: My mother is alive. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do good to her and present your reward to Allah. If you do this, you will be like one who performs Hajj and Umrah, and like a mujahid, as long as your mother is pleased with you. So fear Allah and do good to your mother."
