Description of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) prophecy regarding the martyrs of Badr
Hadith 362
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْكِسَائِيُّ الأُبُلِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : أَنْشَأَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يُحَدِّثُنَا " عَنْ أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُرِينَا مَصَارِعَ أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ بِالأَمْسِ مِنْ بَدْرٍ ، يَقُولُ : هَذَا مَصْرَعُ فُلانٍ غَدًا ، وَهَذَا مَصْرَعُ فُلانٍ غَدًا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ ، قَالَ عُمَرُ : فَوَالَّذِي بَعَثَهُ بِالْحَقِّ ، مَا أَخْطَأُوا الْحُدُودَ الَّتِي حَدَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَجُعِلُوا فِي بِئْرٍ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ ، فَانْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَيْهِمْ ، فَقَالَ : يَا فُلانُ بْنَ فُلانٍ ، وَيَا فُلانُ بْنَ فُلانٍ ، هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَكُمُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ حَقًّا ؟ ، فَإِنِّي قَدْ وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي اللَّهُ حَقًّا ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، كَيْفَ تُكَلِّمُ أَجْسَادًا لا أَرْوَاحَ فِيهَا ؟ ، فَقَالَ : مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُمْ لا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ أَنْ يَرُدُّوا شَيْئًا "، لا يُرْوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ عُمَرَ ، إِلا بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) began to narrate to us about the people of Badr. He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to inform us of the places where the people of Badr would fall, a day before, and said: "Here such-and-such disbeliever will fall, here such-and-such will fall." Then, by the One Who sent you (peace and blessings be upon him) with the truth, they did not go beyond the limit which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had indicated for their falling. Then they were thrown, one on top of another, into a well. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went towards them and began to say: "O so-and-so son of so-and-so! Did you find true what Allah and His Messenger had promised you? I have indeed found true what my Lord promised me." Upon this, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! How are you speaking to bodies in which there is no life? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "What I am saying, they hear it better than you do. The only thing is that they cannot reply."
