Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to the people and said: "O people! Whoever among you is afflicted with a calamity after me, let him console himself with my calamity, for no calamity has befallen anyone in my Ummah greater than the calamity that befell me."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was concerned for his Ummah even in the last days of his blessed life. Thus, when he saw them remaining steadfast upon righteousness, he became very pleased.

➋ When patience over a calamity feels difficult, one should reflect that if a loved one or elder has passed away, this is not something new. Whoever has come to this world must depart. When even a great personality like Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), has passed away, then who is there that will remain alive forever?

➌ The meaning of the hadith can also be that when a calamity befalls, a Muslim should remember the calamities and hardships that befell the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and, keeping in view the beautiful example (uswah hasanah) of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), exercise patience. Just as the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) exercised patience at every occasion of difficulty and calamity, and did not adopt the way of panic and wailing over hardships, we too should do the same.
