Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mu’awiyah Ghafari (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever does three things has tasted the sweetness of faith: Whoever worships Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, alone, knowing that there is no deity except Him; and every year pays the zakat of his wealth with a happy heart, giving neither an old, mangy, nor sick animal, but rather gives from the best of his wealth, for Allah Almighty asks you for the best and does not command you to give the bad; and the third thing is that he gives the zakat of his soul.” Someone asked: O Messenger of Allah! How does one give the zakat of his soul? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “The zakat of the soul is that a person knows that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is with him wherever he is.”
