Sayyiduna Muhammad bin al-Munkadir narrates from his father, who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the ‘Isha prayer one night. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and said: “What are you waiting for?” They said: We are waiting for the prayer. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “As long as you are waiting for it, you are in prayer.” Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his gaze towards the sky and said: “The stars are a security for the inhabitants of the sky; when the stars disappear, that which has been promised to the inhabitants of the sky will come to them. And I am a security for my companions (may Allah be pleased with them); when I go, that which has been promised to my companions will come to them. And my companions are a security for my ummah; when my companions go, that which has been promised to my ummah will come to them. Bilal, stand up and give the iqamah.”
