حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ فَرُّوخَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ، بِالرَّافِقَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَيْسَوبَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ، أَبُو قَتَادَةَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَاقِدِ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " كَانَ يُوتِرُ بِ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى ، وَ قُلْ يَأَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ ، وَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، إِلا أَبُو قَتَادَةَ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite ﴿سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى﴾, ﴿قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ﴾, and ﴿قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ﴾ in Witr.

Explanation & Benefits
Nasai — Hadith 1704
´Zuhair narrated from Abu Ishaq, from Sa'eed bin Jubair, :` Ibn Abbas used to pray witr with three (units) with (the Surahs): "Glorify the Name of Your Lord, the Most High" (Surah Al-A'la), "Say: O You disbelievers" (Surah Al-Kafirun), and "Say: He is Allah, (the) One" (Surah Al-Ikhlas).

1704. Commentary: The difference between the two is that in the first narration, three witr are mentioned as the action of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), while in the second hadith, it is the personal action of Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhuma). By "difference," this is what the author (rahimahullah) intends. And Allah knows best.
