The importance of congregational prayer
Hadith 274
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْعَمِّيُّ النَّحَّاسُ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْجَزَرِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْخُرَيْبِيُّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ صَالِحِ بْنِ حَيٍّ الْحَيَوَانِيِّ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ ابْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَزِينٍ ، عَنِ ابن أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ، أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، " إِنِّي كَبِيرٌ ضَرِيرٌ شَاسِعُ الدَّارِ ، وَلا قَائِدَ لِي ، فَهَلْ تَجِدُ لِي رُخْصَةً ؟ ، قَالَ : أَتَسْمَعُ النِّدَاءَ ؟ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : مَا أَجِدُ لَكَ رُخْصَةً "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ، إِلا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I am old, blind, and live far from the mosque, and I have no one to lead me by the hand, so is there a concession for me to pray at home? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you hear the call to prayer (adhan)?" He replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not find any concession for you."
