حَدَّثَنَا طَاهِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْقَاضِي الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ مُوسَى بْنِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : "مَنْ صَلَّى الضُّحَى اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ بِهَا قَصْرًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ ، إِلا حَمْزَةُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever performs twelve rak‘ahs of Duha prayer, Allah Almighty will build for him a palace of gold in Paradise."

Commentary:

With this context and wording, this hadith is weak, not the actual forenoon (duha) prayer itself. The following hadith is authentic, from which the proof of eight units (rak‘ahs) of the forenoon (duha) prayer is established.

(In the chain of narration, Musa ibn Fulan ibn Anas is an unknown (majhool) narrator.)

Explanation:
Our esteemed researcher has declared the aforementioned narration to be weak; therefore, the maximum number of rak‘ahs for Salat al-Duha is eight, which is established from the ahadith of Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, as has been discussed in detail in the previous ahadith. In any case, the virtue of Salat al-Duha is also established from other ahadith.
