Modesty (haya) protects from many moral evils; therefore, it holds special importance in Islam.

In order to preserve modesty (haya), rulings have been given regarding veiling (purdah) and seeking permission before entering someone’s house.

In Islamic law (Shari‘ah), such rulings have been given that make marriage and married life easy, and obstacles have been placed in the way of divorce.
The purpose of this is also to preserve chastity and purity.

For this purpose, a severe punishment has been prescribed for adultery (zina), and likewise, a dreadful punishment has been prescribed for falsely accusing someone of adultery.
