حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الرَّازِيُّ الإِسْفَذَنِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْفَرَّاءُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنِ الأَحْنَفِ ابْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : "لا تَزَالُ أُمَّتِي عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ مَا لَمْ يُؤَخِّرُوا الْمَغْرِبَ ، حَتَّى تَشْتَبِكَ النُّجُومُ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، إِلا عُمَرُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ
Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “My Ummah will remain upon the natural disposition as long as they do not delay the Maghrib prayer until the stars appear.”

Commentary:
(1)
It is more virtuous to perform the prayer at its earliest time, especially in the case of the Maghrib prayer; one should avoid delaying it, because its time is shorter compared to the other prayers.
(2)
Delaying the prayers is also a kind of turning away from the religion.
(3)
Some of the brighter stars appear as soon as the sun sets, so the sighting of a few stars is not a sign of delay, unless a considerable number of stars have appeared.
(4) (تَشْتَبِكَ)
The word is derived from شَبْكَة (net).
The meaning is that it should not be such that the stars appear in such abundance that it seems as if a net of stars has been spread across the sky.
