Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Whoever visits a sick person, he immerses himself in the mercy of Allah, and when he sits with him, mercy covers him." When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished saying what he wanted to say, I asked: This is for the one who visits the sick, so what is there for the sick person? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "When a person remains ill for three days, he becomes purified from sins just as on the day his mother gave birth to him."

´Anas bin Malik narrated that:` The Prophet (ﷺ) visited a man who was so emaciated that he had become like a baby bird. He (ﷺ) said to him: “And did you not used to supplicate? Did you not used to ask Your Lord for sound health?” He said: “I used to say: “O Allah, whatever You are going to punish me with in the Hereafter, then hasten it for me in this world.” So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Glory is to Allah, you are not capable of that” – or – “you are not able to stand that. Would you not say: ‘O Allah, give us good in this world, and good in the Hereafter, and spare us the punishment of the Fire (Allāhumma ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fil ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā `adhāban-nār).’”
