Saying "except" and "InshaAllah"
Hadith 1120
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْجُبَيْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : "وَاذْكُرْ رَبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ سورة الكهف آية 24 ، قَالَ : إِذَا نَسِيتَ الاسْتِثْنَاءَ فَاسْتَثْنِ إِذَا ذَكَرْتَ ، قَالَ : هِيَ خَاصَّةٌ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَيْسَ لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَسْتَثْنِيَ إِلا فِي صِلَةِ يَمِينٍ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ ، إِلا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْحُصَيْنِ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says regarding the statement of Allah Almighty: ﴿And remember your Lord when you forget﴾, meaning: "When you forget to make an exception and to say 'InshaAllah', then whenever you remember, make the exception." He said: This is specific to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); for anyone else, making an exception is not correct, except when it is combined with an oath, then making an exception is correct.
