Hadith 1052

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O Abu Hurairah! Be content with what Allah has decreed for you, and you will become the richest of all people. And become pious, and you will be a devoted servant of Allah. And love for others what you love for yourself, and you will become a believer. And behave well with your neighbor, and you will become a Muslim. Avoid excessive laughter, for too much laughter kills the heart, and loud laughter is from Satan, while smiling is from Allah.”

Note:
(On the basis of corroborating narrations, this hadith is hasan; otherwise, its narrator "Hasan al-Basri" did not hear from Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, and "Abu Tariq" is unknown. Also, see: al-Sahihah: 930)

Benefits and Issues:

Our esteemed researcher has declared the mentioned narration weak in its chain of transmission, whereas other scholars have deemed it authentic.
In Musnad Ahmad, there is a narration from Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) with the same meaning, regarding which the researchers of Musnad Ahmad write that this hadith is sound (jayyid), and Shaykh al-Albani has also declared it authentic.
From the discussion of the scholars, the opinion affirming the authenticity of the hadith appears to be closer to correctness. Therefore, despite the mentioned narration being weak in its chain, it is actionable due to other supporting evidences and corroborations.
And Allah knows best.

Just as prayer, fasting, and other acts are included in worship, so too is abstaining from sins and doubtful matters an aspect of worship.
The one who is more devoted in worship is he who keeps both aspects of worship in view.

Not being content with existing blessings and having greed for more does not allow feelings of gratitude to arise in the heart.
For gratitude, it is necessary to consider the importance and benefits of the blessings one already has.
This will create an awareness of Allah’s favors, and the servant will become grateful.

A distinguishing characteristic of the believer is good conduct towards others.

A Muslim is one from whose hand and tongue other Muslims are safe.
Most disputes arise with those with whom one has more interaction, and people often have dealings with their neighbors. Therefore, one who is accustomed to good conduct with neighbors will deal well with everyone, and in this way, he becomes a true Muslim.

Excessive laughter indicates heedlessness, and heedlessness and indifference are signs of a dead heart. When the heart dies, it no longer feels its own benefit or harm in the Hereafter.
Therefore, excessive joking and laughter is a bad thing, although a cheerful demeanor is a good quality.
