Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Which person is the best?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "The one whose life is long and whose deeds are good." He asked, "And who is bad?" He replied: "The one whose life is long and whose deeds are bad."

´'Abdur-Rahman bin Abi-Bakrah narrated from his father that a man said:` "O Messenger of Allah! Which of the people is the best?" He said: "He whose life is long and his deeds are good." He said: "Then which of the people is the worst?" He said: "He whose life is long and his deeds are bad."

Explanation: 1: The status and position that capital and principal hold in the eyes of a merchant is the same as that of time. A merchant is always desirous of increasing his capital; similarly, one who is granted a long life should ensure that his time is spent as much as possible in righteous deeds. If he preserves the capital of his life in this way, then just as a merchant who seeks to increase his capital often earns profit, in the same way, he too will continue to reap benefit.
Note: (In the chain of narration, Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jud'an is a weak narrator, but on the basis of corroborating evidence, as with the previous hadith, this hadith is authentic.)
