The Book of Merits
(تَفْضِيلُ حَضْرَةِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ لِلَّذِينَ شَارَكُوا فِي بَدْرٍ)
(Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, giving preference to those who participated in Badr)
Hadith 6265
وَعَن قيس بن حَازِم قَالَ: كَانَ عَطَاءُ الْبَدْرِيِّينَ خَمْسَةُ آلَافٍ. وَقَالَ عُمَرُ: لَأُفَضِّلَنَّهُمْ على مَنْ بَعدَهم. رَوَاهُ البُخَارِيّ
Qais b. Abu Hazim told that the grant to those who were present at Badr was five thousand each and that `Umar said, "I shall certainly give them precedence over those who come after them." Bukhari transmitted it.
