Hadith 5352
Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came for prayer and saw the people as if they were laughing. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Listen! If you frequently remembered the destroyer of pleasures (death), it would keep you away from what I have seen (i.e., laughing). So remember often the destroyer of pleasures, that is, death, for the grave says every day: I am the house of strangeness, I am the house of loneliness, I am the house of dust, and I am the house of worms and insects. And when a believing servant is buried, the grave says to him: Welcome! Of all the people who walked upon me, you were the most beloved to me. Today you have been entrusted to me, and you have come to me, so see how I treat you.” He said: “It is expanded for him as far as his sight reaches, and a door to Paradise is opened for him. And when a wicked servant or a disbeliever is buried, the grave says to him: No welcome for you! Of all the people who walked upon me, you were the most hated to me. Today you have been entrusted to me, and you have come to me, so soon you will see how I treat you.” He said: “It becomes constricted for him until his ribs interlock.” The narrator says: And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) demonstrated this by interlacing the fingers of one hand into the fingers of the other hand, and said: “Seventy serpents are set upon him, and if one of them were to breathe upon the earth, it would not produce anything as long as the world remains. They will bite and tear at him until he is brought to account.” The narrator says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The grave is either a garden from the gardens of Paradise or a pit from the pits of Hell.” Its chain of narration is weak.
