Mishkat al-Masabih
كتاب الرقاقThe Book of Heart-Softeners
(نَصِيحَةُ التَّجَنُّبِ مِنْ عَيْشِ الدُّنْيَا وَرَفَاهِيَتِهَا)
(Advice to avoid worldly luxury and comfort)
Hadith 5262
وَعَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا بَعَثَ بِهِ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ قَالَ: «إِيَّاكَ وَالتَّنَعُّمَ فَإِنَّ عِبَادَ الله لَيْسُوا بالمتنعمين» . رَوَاهُ أَحْمد
It is narrated from Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent him to Yemen, he said: "Beware of living a life of luxury, for the (sincere) servants of Allah are not those who live in luxury." Its chain is weak; narrated by Ahmad.
