كتاب الرقاقThe Book of Heart-Softeners
(لَا تَظُنُّوا شَيْئًا عَنِ الحَالَةِ الظَّاهِرَةِ لِلنَّاسِ)
(Do not assume anything about people’s outward condition)
Hadith 5236
وَعَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لِرَجُلٍ عِنْدَهُ جَالِسٍ: «مَا رَأْيُكَ فِي هَذَا؟» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَشْرَافِ النَّاسِ: هَذَا وَاللَّهِ حَرِيٌّ إِنْ خَطَبَ أَنْ يُنْكَحَ وَإِنْ شَفَعَ أَنْ يُشَفَّعَ. قَالَ: فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ مر على رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا رَأْيُكَ فِي هَذَا؟» فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ مِنْ فُقَرَاءِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ هَذَا حَرِيٌّ إِنْ خَطَبَ أَنْ لَا ينْكح. وإِن شفع أَن لَا يُشفَع. وإِن قَالَ أَنْ لَا يُسْمَعَ لِقَوْلِهِ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «هَذَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ مِلْءِ الْأَرْضِ مِثْلَ هَذَا» . مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ
Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a person sitting with him: “What is your opinion about this (man)?” He replied: “He is one of the honorable people. By Allah! He is such that if he proposes marriage anywhere, he should be married, and if he intercedes, his intercession should be accepted.” The narrator says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. Then another man passed by, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “What is your opinion about this man?” He replied: “O Messenger of Allah! He is one of the poor Muslims. He is such that if he proposes marriage anywhere, he should not be married, and if he intercedes, his intercession should not be accepted, and if he speaks, his words should not be listened to.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “This (single) man is better than a whole earth full of people like the first one.” Agreed upon.
