كتاب الرقاقThe Book of Heart-Softeners
(سَبَبُ مَرْتَبَةِ الحَكِيمِ لُقْمَانَ)
(The reason for the status of the wise Luqman)
Hadith 5223
وَعَنْ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: بَلَغَنِي أَنَّهُ قِيلَ لِلُقْمَانَ الْحَكِيمِ: مَا بَلَغَ بِكَ مَا ترى؟ يَعْنِي الْفَضْلَ قَالَ: صِدْقُ الْحَدِيثِ وَأَدَاءُ الْأَمَانَةِ وَتَرْكُ مَا لَا يَعْنِينِي. رَوَاهُ فِي «الْمُوَطَّأِ»
It is narrated from Imam Malik, he said: I have received the hadith that Luqman the Wise was asked, "By which things have you reached the position in which we see you?" He replied: Truthfulness, fulfilling trusts, and leaving aside useless things. Its chain is weak, narrated by Malik.
