Hadith 5161
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Wretched is the slave of the dinar, the dirham, and the shawl; if he is given, he is pleased, and if he is not given, he is displeased. He is ruined and disgraced; if he is pricked by a thorn, may it not be removed. Glad tidings to that person who holds the reins of his horse in the way of Allah, his hair disheveled and his feet dusty; if he is appointed to guard duty, he remains steadfast in his post, and if he is in the rear of the army, he remains steadfast there as well. If he seeks permission (to attend a gathering), he is not granted permission, and if he intercedes, his intercession is not accepted." Narrated by al-Bukhari.
