Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Three things are causes of salvation and three things are causes of destruction. The things that cause salvation are: adopting the fear of Allah both outwardly and inwardly, speaking the truth in pleasure and displeasure, and adopting moderation in wealth and poverty. And the things that cause destruction are: following such desires that are obeyed, such miserliness that is followed, and a person's self-admiration, and this is the most destructive of all." Imam Bayhaqi has narrated all five hadiths in Shu'ab al-Iman. Its chain is weak, narrated by al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman.
