Mishkat al-Masabih
كتاب الآدابThe Book of Manners
(قِرَاءَةُ الصَّحَابَةِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ شِعْرًا أَثْنَاءَ حَفْرِ الْخَنْدَقِ)
(The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, reciting poetry during the digging of the trench)
Hadith 4793
وَعَن أنسٍ قَالَ: جَعَلَ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ وَالْأَنْصَارُ يَحْفِرُونَ الْخَنْدَقَ وَيَنْقُلُونَ الترابَ وهم يَقُولُونَ: نَحن الذينَ بَايعُوا محمَّداً عَلَى الْجِهَادِ مَا بَقِينَا أَبَدَا يَقُولُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يُجِيبُهُمْ: اللَّهُمَّ لَا عَيْشَ إِلَّا عَيْشُ الْآخِرَهْ فَاغْفِرْ لِلْأَنْصَارِ والمهاجرة مُتَّفق عَلَيْهِ
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Muhajirun and Ansar (may Allah be pleased with them) were digging the trench, carrying the earth, and saying: "We are those who have pledged allegiance to Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for jihad as long as we live." In response, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was saying: "O Allah! True life is the life of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirun." Agreed upon.
