Mishkat al-Masabih
كتاب الآدابThe Book of Manners
(اللَّهُ تَعَالَى يَغْضَبُ مِنْ قَوْلِ سَيِّدٍ لِلْمُنَافِقِ)
(Allah Almighty is displeased when a hypocrite is called “Sayyid”)
Hadith 4780
وَعَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَا تَقُولُوا لِلْمُنَافِقِ سَيِّدٌ فَإِنَّهُ إِنْ يَكُ سَيِّدًا فَقَدْ أَسْخَطْتُمْ رَبَّكُمْ» . رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُد
Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not call a hypocrite 'Sayyid' (master), because if he is a Sayyid (leader, master), then you have angered your Lord." Its chain is weak, narrated by Abu Dawood.
