Hilal bin Yasaf narrates: We were with Salim bin Ubaid when a man from among the people sneezed and said: "As-salamu alaikum!" (Upon hearing this) Salim said: "Upon you and your mother." It seemed that the man felt some displeasure in his heart. He (Salim) said: "Listen! I have only said to you what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said." (Once) a man sneezed in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "As-salamu alaikum!" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Upon you and your mother." (Then the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:) "When one of you sneezes, he should say: ((Alhamdulillahi Rabbil 'Alamin)), and whoever responds to him should say: ((Yarhamukallah)), and then he should say: May Allah forgive me and you." Its chain is weak. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood.
