Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us and said, "Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) summoned me to him. I came to his door and greeted (with salam) three times. I did not receive a reply, so I returned. He (Umar) asked me: 'What prevented you from coming to us?' I said: 'I came and greeted at your door three times, but you did not reply, so I went back, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed me: "When any of you seeks permission three times and is not granted permission, let him return."' Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Present evidence for this.' Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'I stood with them and went to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and testified.' Agreed upon.
