Mishkat al-Masabih
كتاب الآدابThe Book of Manners
(الْمُبَادِرُ بِالسَّلَامِ بَرِيءٌ مِنَ التَّكَبُّرِ)
(The one who initiates the greeting is free from arrogance)
Hadith 4666
وَعَن عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «الْبَادِئُ بِالسَّلَامِ بَرِيءٌ مِنَ الْكِبْرِ» . رَوَاهُ الْبَيْهَقِيُّ فِي «شعب الْإِيمَان»
Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The one who initiates the greeting of peace is free from arrogance." Its chain is weak; it was narrated by Al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman.
