The Book of Legal Punishments
(بَيَانُ كَيِّ يَدِ السَّارِقِ بَعْدَ قَطْعِهَا)
(Explanation of branding the thief’s hand after cutting it)
Hadith 3604
وَرُوِيَ فِي شَرْحِ السُّنَّةِ فِي قَطْعِ السَّارِقِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اقْطَعُوهُ ثمَّ احسموه»
In Sharh as-sunna the Prophet is reported as saying regarding the maiming of a thief, "Maim him, then cauterise him."
