And Abu Bakr Isma‘ili narrated in his Sahih as follows: He said, “Who will protect you from me?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “Allah!” The sword fell from his hand, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took the sword and said, “Who will protect you from me?” He said, “You are the best one to take hold (i.e., forgive),” so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Do you bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “No, but I promise you that I will not fight you, nor will I support those who fight you.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) let him go (set him free). He (the Bedouin) went back to his companions and said, “I have come to you from the best of people.” It is likewise in Kitab al-Humaydi and Riyadh as-Salihin. Its chain is authentic; it was narrated by an-Nawawi in Riyadh as-Salihin and al-Bayhaqi in Dala’il an-Nubuwwah.
