Sufyan Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: In the past, wealth was considered undesirable, whereas today it is the shield of a believer. And he said: If we did not have dinars, these kings would consider us worthless. And he said: Whoever has wealth in his hand should make it useful (and not waste it), because this is such a time that if he becomes needy, he will be the first person to sell his religion for worldly gain. And he said: Lawful wealth cannot bear extravagance. Weak, rejected; narrated in Sharh al-Sunnah.
