كتاب الرقاقThe Book of Heart-Softeners
(الزُّهْدُ فِي الدُّنْيَا سَبَبُ حُبِّ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى)(Detachment from the world is a cause of Allah Almighty’s love)
Hadith 5187

وَعَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ دُلَّنِي عَلَى عَمَلٍ إِذَا أَنَا عَمِلْتُهُ أَحَبَّنِي اللَّهُ وَأَحَبَّنِي النَّاسُ. قَالَ: «ازْهَدْ فِي الدُّنْيَا يُحِبُّكَ اللَّهُ وَازْهَدْ فِيمَا عِنْدَ النَّاسِ يُحِبَّكَ النَّاسُ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَابْن مَاجَه
Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came and said, “O Messenger of Allah! Tell me of an action which, if I do it, Allah and people will love me.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Renounce the world and Allah will love you, and renounce what people possess and people will love you.” Weak. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah.
