كتاب الرقاقThe Book of Heart-Softeners
(لَا تَعْتَبِرُوا كَثْرَةَ العِبَادَةِ مِثْلَ التَّقْوَى)(Do not consider abundance of worship equal to piety)
Hadith 5173

وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: ذُكِرَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعِبَادَةٍ وَاجْتِهَادٍ وَذُكِرَ آخَرُ بِرِعَّةٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا تَعْدِلْ بِالرِّعَّةِ» . يَعْنِي الْوَرَعَ. رَوَاهُ الترمذيُّ
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The worship and intense devotion of a man was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the piety and caution of another man was also mentioned. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not compare (that worship and striving) with piety." Its chain is weak. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi.
