(نَصِيحَةُ الغَيْرِ وَفَضِيحَةُ النَّفْسِ)(Advising others while disgracing oneself)
Hadith 5149

وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي رِجَالًا تُقْرَضُ شِفَاهُهُمْ بِمَقَارِيضَ مِنْ نَارٍ قُلْتُ: مَنْ هؤلاءِ يَا جبريلُ؟ قَالَ: هؤلاءِ خُطباءُ أُمَّتِكَ يَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبَرِّ وَيَنْسَوْنَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ «. رَوَاهُ فِي» شرح السّنة «وَالْبَيْهَقِيّ فِي» شعب الإِيمان وَفِي رِوَايَتِهِ قَالَ: «خُطَبَاءُ مِنْ أُمَّتِكَ الَّذِينَ يقولونَ مَا لَا يفعلونَ ويقرؤونَ كتابَ اللَّهِ وَلَا يعملونَ»
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the night of Mi'raj, I saw some men whose lips were being cut with scissors of fire. I said: 'O Jibreel! Who are these people?' He replied: 'These are the preachers of your ummah; they used to enjoin righteousness upon people but forgot themselves.'"
In Sharh al-Sunnah, al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman, and in their narration, it is mentioned: "They are the preachers of your ummah who used to say but did not do; they used to recite the Book of Allah but did not act upon it."
Hasan. Narrated in Sharh al-Sunnah and al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman.
