Hadith 5017

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while some people were with him. One of those people said: I love this person for the sake of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you informed him?" He replied: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go to him and tell him." So he went to that person and told him (that I love you for the sake of Allah). He replied: May the One for whose sake you love me, love you in return. The narrator states: Then that man returned, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, so he informed him of the reply. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will be with the one whom you love, and you will receive the reward you desired." (Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman). And in the narration of Tirmidhi: "A person will be with whom he loves, and he will receive the recompense for what he has done." Its chain is weak, narrated by al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman and al-Tirmidhi.
