Hadith 4810

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Singing creates hypocrisy in the heart just as water makes crops grow." Its chain of narration is weak; it was narrated by Al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
This narration, when attributed as marfu‘ (directly to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), is not authentic.
However, the statement of Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud radi Allahu anhu (as a mawquf narration) is authentic.
He said: Singing creates hypocrisy in the heart, just as water makes crops grow.
