Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed me to learn the Syriac language. In another narration, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said that I should learn the writing of the Jews, and he said: "I fear for the writing of the Jews." Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I learned their language in less than half a month. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote letters to the Jews, I would write them, and when they wrote letters to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I would read their letters to him. Its chain is Hasan. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi.
